What is a Russian manicure?
A Russian manicure (also called a dry manicure, e-file manicure or European manicure) is a waterless technique. Instead of soaking the hands and pushing or clipping the cuticle, the technician lifts the cuticle and clears the dead tissue around the nail plate and sidewalls with fine electric-file bits. Because the skin is fully cleared, gel polish can be applied right up to the cuticle line with no gap.
The result is the look people search for: a crisp cuticle line, a smooth, glossy surface, and regrowth that shows much later than after a regular manicure. It takes longer and it demands real training, which is why the technique is rare in the Rochester area.
What your appointment includes
- Safe removal of previous gelYour old gel or hard gel is removed by e-file without soaking or scraping, so the natural nail underneath stays intact. Removal is included in every service.
- Dry cuticle prepThe cuticle and sidewalls are cleared with fine e-file bits. No water, no nippers on live skin, no rushing. This is the step that makes a Russian manicure look the way it does.
- Shaping and structureFree edge shaped to your preference. For strength, a hard gel overlay or a custom gel extension can be built with a proper apex so the nail resists breaking.
- Gel finish under the cuticleGel polish is applied right to the cuticle line with no gap, then cured and sealed. French tip, ombre, or chrome can be added to any service.
- Sterile every timeEvery metal tool is autoclaved between clients to hospital standards, and every product Anna uses is non-toxic and chosen with sensitive skin in mind.

How much does a Russian manicure cost in Rochester?+
At AnnaProBeauty a Russian manicure with gel polish on short natural nails starts at $80, with a hard gel overlay at $100, and cuticle cleaning only (no color) at $60. Gel nail extensions start at $140. Appointments after 6:00 PM add $20 and appointments on Anna's off days add $50. Cash, Zelle, and Venmo are accepted.
How long does a Russian manicure last?+
Because the cuticle area is cleared precisely and gel is applied right up to the cuticle line, a Russian manicure stays clean-looking for weeks rather than days. Most clients return every three to four weeks; actual wear depends on your nail growth and daily habits.
Is a Russian manicure safe?+
Yes, when it is performed by a trained, licensed technician with sterile tools. Anna is licensed in New York and e-file certified. The technique removes only dead cuticle tissue without cutting live skin, every metal tool is autoclaved between clients, and all products are non-toxic.
What is the difference between a Russian manicure and a regular manicure?+
A regular manicure soaks the hands, pushes the cuticle back, and often clips it with nippers, leaving a small gap between polish and skin that shows regrowth within days. A Russian manicure is dry: the cuticle and sidewalls are cleared with fine e-file bits, so gel can be applied right to the cuticle line with no gap. It takes longer (about 1.5 to 2 hours) but lasts weeks longer.
Do I need to remove my old gel before the appointment?+
No. Safe removal of your previous gel is included in every Russian manicure service at AnnaProBeauty. Please do not pick or peel gel off at home, since that damages the natural nail.
Do you take walk-ins?+
No. AnnaProBeauty is a private studio and every session is reserved for one client, so all appointments are booked in advance, Monday to Saturday. Arriving more than 15 minutes late may result in cancellation, and cancellations require 24 hours' notice.
Which areas around Rochester do you serve?+
The studio is in Pittsford and welcomes clients from Rochester, Brighton, Henrietta, Fairport, Penfield, and the rest of Monroe County. Anna speaks English, Ukrainian, and Spanish.
Do you teach the Russian manicure technique?+
